Park Improvements – Done for the Year, More to Come

As you likely saw, this summer we had a major renovation project in the park, which is now complete. The construction removed the old school’s foundation from underneath the field to create a safe playable field surface and added: a new tree grove, additional walking paths around the park, and benches and shade structures to the playgrounds and surrounding areas. We have been delighted to see members of the community making use of the field and enjoying the new amenities.

As we continue to work on future renovations to the park, we are thrilled to announce the Friends of the Park at LeDroit has worked with Councilmember Nadeau to advocate for the addition of a spray/splash park to be added to our space.

We are soliciting community feedback on the types of water instillations people would like to see in the park and where the water features might go – as well as on future enhancements the community would like to see in the park. We will have boards up in the park at our events where you can contribute to the conversation, and please feel free to go on our new website (www.theparkatledroit.com) to email us your thoughts. We will also soon have a survey on the website you can fill out with your feedback as well. We will compile and share the community feedback with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Department of General Services (DGS), which will oversee the project.

Events Galore

We had many events related to the Park at LeDroit this season. Thank you to all who came out to join us! They included:

September Park Meetup and Cleanup on Saturday, September 14 where we cleaned up the park and worked on some landscaping projects.

Trivia at Nellie's on Wednesday, October 9, where a portion of drink proceeds supported the Friends of the Park at LeDroit.

-Neighborhood tree planting at the Park with Casey Trees on Saturday, October 12, where we planted 50+ trees in the park to help with shade and to promote a healthy environment.

Thanks to all who came out to support our tree planting with Casey Trees!

And please save the date for our upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. If you would like, you can also officially RSVP for these events on our website at www.theparkatletdroit.com/events so we can keep you informed of the latest information:

Fall-o-ween Park Bonanza/Park End of Season Event with Community Feedback Session – Saturday, October 26 from 10:00am-1:00pm

  • An opportunity to enjoy our new field and celebrate Fall at the park with games, food, and activities for children.

November Park Meetup and Cleanup – Saturday, November 9 from 10:30-11:30am

December Park Meetup and Cleanup – Saturday, December 14 from 10:30-11:30am

  • Park clean-ups are always the second Saturday of the month. They provide an opportunity for friends and neighbors to contribute to the park by getting to know your neighbors, picking up trash, watering plants, grabbing a cup of coffee, and having fun!

Hug a Tree Program – Ongoing

  • Do you want to “adopt” one of the new trees in the park or contribute to the overall health of the new grove we planted? The trees will need to be watered weekly, so we need a lot of help. If you are interested, please sign up at www.theparkatledroit.com/get-involved or email theparkatledroit@gmail.com. Volunteering is easy, and you can do it on your own schedule!

We Need YOU!

We are seeking more volunteers, board members, and committee members. If you want to contribute, please email us at theparkatledriot@gmail.com or sign up on our website at www.theparkatledroit.com/get-involved.
